The Minnesota Power Foundation distributes more than $1 million a year to organizations and individuals in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota that share its priorities in education, community enrichment and human services. Its grants and educational programs benefit communities served by Minnesota Power; Superior Water, Light & Power; and BNI Coal.
The Foundation’s regional advisory committees meet on an ongoing basis to review grant requests of less than $5,000. Grant requests of more than $5,000 are reviewed by the Foundation’s board of directors in February, May, August and November.
The Foundation has supported a variety of projects, including the purchase of computers at the Boys & Girls Club in Superior, Wis.; trail restoration at Enger Tower in Duluth; mentoring programs; and FIRST Robotics Competition.
Minnesota Power; Superior Water, Light & Power; and BNI Coal have a long tradition of supporting the United Way, and each year hundreds of employees pledge a portion of their wages to the organization.
