We provide retail electric service to 144,000 retail customers in a 26,000 square mile region in northeastern Minnesota.

We meet our customers’ needs with electricity produced by Minnesota Power generating facilities, as well as electricity we purchase from other utilities or power suppliers. Our generation sources include three coal-fired plants and the renewable resources of water, wood and wind. We’re the state’s largest producer of hydroelectric power, with nine hydro stations.

Our transmission and distribution components include 8,221 miles of lines and 165 substations. Our transmission and distribution lines are interconnected with other utilities in Minnesota, neighboring states, and Canada.
