Minnesota Power Energy House
Menu
Title

Minnesota Power's Millennium Star project gives you a firsthand look at the construction of a high-efficiency home that can be heated and cooled for $300 or less per year -- without sacrificing big windows, unique floor plans, fresh air and all of the other comforts of modern living. If you're planning to build or remodel a home and you have super energy efficiency in mind, you'll want to follow this project.

Our goal is to use home building technologies that are most efficient from an energy and resource standpoint but that remain in reach of a middle class budget. The building products and techniques will be monitored for heat loss and energy efficient performance. Upon completion near the end of 1999, you'll be invited to tour the home and evaluate and compare the different technologies.

Minnesota Power's Millennium Star project evolved from a 1998-1999 Conservation Improvement Program (CIP) project. The state of Minnesota requires investor-owned utilities like Minnesota Power to provide a wide range of energy-saving information to customers.

Project partners include LHB Engineers and Architects, Arrowhead Builders Association, and Environmental Pollution Authority Energy Star Home.
