Environmental Stewardship

Conservation

Conservation PhotosStewardship includes minimizing waste, including waste of energy. Minnesota Power's level of generation, though, is determined by customers' demand, so we have worked hard to encourage the most efficient use of energy possible. Land Stewardship

Minnesota Power conducts a continuing program of public awareness and information about energy efficiency. It promotes and even subsidizes energy-efficient devices, ranging from compact fluorescent lamps (bulbs) to huge industrial machines. Rebates and Savings

Minnesota Power has even built a demonstration house that employs state-of-the-art energy conservation techniques and technologies.

Hydro Electricity

Conservation PhotosMinnesota Power operates 11 hydroelectricity stations and 16 reservoirs, including the state's largest, on the St. Louis River at Thomson, with a total capacity of 115 megawatts.

Not only does this mean less fossil fuel must be burned but also creates and preserves countless opportunities for enjoying our region's natural beauty — waterfront living, boating, fishing, camping, cross-country skiing, environmental education and more.

Environmental Improvement

Environment PhotosAlthough Minnesota Power is proud of its environmental record, we are constantly seeking new ways to provide electricity that have the least possible impact on our environment.
