About Us

Kids Voting Minnesota, is a grassroots, non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to educating Minnesota youth about the rights and responsibilities and mechanics of participating in American democracy.  Students in grades kindergarten through twelve may accompany their parents/guardians to the polling site on Election Day and vote for the same candidates and issues as adults.  Though not part of the official results, student votes are tallied and reported at schools and by the media.

Our mission is to foster active, engaged and well-informed citizens. To this end, Kids Voting Minnesota works with local schools and communities to create positive civic experiences for youth including the opportunity to learn about and vote in public elections.

We strive to bring out the best in American democracy through proven strategies in civic education, family involvement, private/public partnerships and community volunteerism.

In November 2004, more than 67,500 students voted in Kids Voting elections. They came from Atwater-Cosgrove-Grove City, Alexandria, Barnum, Brainerd, Carlton, Cloquet, Cook County, Cromwell-Wright, Crookston, Deer River, Duluth, Ely, Esko, Grand Rapids, Greenway, Grygla, Hastings, Hermantown, Hopkins, International Falls, Kelliher, Minneapolis, Minnetonka, Moorhead, Morris, Moose Lake, Nashwauk-Keewatin, North Branch, Northfield, Owatonna, Pine City, Prior Lake, St. Cloud, St. Paul, St. Peter, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, Shakopee, Thief River Falls, Upsala, Roseville, Virginia, and Wrenshal. The Program involved about 8000 teachers, 3000 volunteers, 225,000 students and took place in schools and over 900 precinct polling places.
