	Cloquet Elementary Schools and Pequot Lakes Middle School If middle school students in Pequot Lakes, Minn., and fifth graders in Cloquet, Minn., were cartoons, they might be walking around with light bulbs over their heads—energy efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs!
	Chisholm High School Students in the environmental studies class at Chisholm High School received a check for $2,000, earned in the Learn & Earn program sponsored jointly by Minnesota Power and Lake Country Power.
	Connor-Jasper Middle School, Bovey Science students at Connor-Jasper Middle School in Bovey were impressed at their results after side-by-side comparisons of incandescent bulbs and CFLs using light boards and meters provided by Minnesota Power.
	Crosby-Ironton Schools Through the Learn & Earn program, Crosby-Ironton schools earned $1,300 to benefit energy and environmental education at the schools.
	Cuyuna Range Elementary School, Deerwood Students at Cuyuna Range Elementary School in Deerwood earned $1,200 in the school’s Company-sponsored Learn & Earn program.
	Eveleth-Gilbert School High school juniors and seniors from the Honor Society promoted the use of compact fluorescent light bulbs and distributed rebate coupons, earning money for each compact fluorescent light bulb sold during their L&E campaign.
	Hermantown Middle School There’s a joke at Hermantown Middle School, sparked by a recent energy awareness campaign and fund-raising event. It goes like this: How are middle school students like compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs? Answer: They’re all very bright, but they don’t use much energy.
	Little Falls Community Middle School Through Learn & Earn, students at Little Falls Community Middle School have educated their parents, fellow students and community about the benefits of energy conservation and they’ve earned money to support their school’s science curriculum activities and buy new lab equipment.
	Long Prairie/Grey Eagle Schools By purchasing energy-efficient products, residents saved 178,448 kWh – enough energy to power 18 homes for a year, which translates into: an environmental impact of taking 29 cars off the road and averting the release of 393,000 tons of carbon; and savings of $60,000 over the products’ lifetimes.
	Mesabi East School On behalf of Minnesota Power, Laskin Energy Center Relief Operator Joe Dahmen presented a plaque to Mesabi East athletic director Jim James and math teacher and assistant golf coach Mike McNulty for working with the Company to promote the benefits of energy-saving lighting.
	Park Rapids Middle School Students participated in hands-on experiments using watt meters to measure the energy performance of various lighting products.
	Washington Elementary School, Cloquet Students raised awareness of Earth Week by teaching others in their community and school how to save energy at home; they also raised money to further their own environmental education.

Save Energy and Benefit Your Community 8th Annual Energy Awareness Expo Northeast Minnesota’s long winter heating season is a stressful time for many families and individuals on low or fixed incomes, but those who attended the 8th Annual Energy Awareness Expo in Duluth are better prepared to face it. Ending Homelessness Initiative Minnesota Power partnered with Heading Home St. Louis County, area faith communities, the United Ways of Greater Duluth and Northeastern Minnesota, and local retailers to raise money for programs that fight homelessness in the Northland—by encouraging energy efficiency. Homecroft and Lowell Schools make energy improvements Duluth Public Schools received $52,966 in rebates from Minnesota Power for savings from energy improvements to Homecroft and Lowell Schools. "Great Refrigerator/Freezer Roundup" Through a community partnership between Minnesota Power, the Salvation Army and St. Louis County, thousands of dollars have been donated to provide heating assistance for low income households in the Northland. UMD Sustainability Initiative UMD is a recognized leader in environmental responsibility and Minnesota Power works closely with the school on efforts to curb electric usage and demand.
