(Sing to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”)
“Twinkle, twinkle bulbs so bright.
You will last night after night.
You cost less per kilowatt hour
‘Cuz you use less ‘lectric power.
Do not sleep and do not slumber.
Buy (CFL) bulbs now at Northern Lumber.”
Teachers, students and staff at West End Elementary/Falls Elementary School (WEE/FES) had lots of fun singing the virtues of energy-efficient lighting products during an educational school fund raising campaign sponsored by Minnesota Power. Everyone enjoyed witty parodies, skits and dialogues over the morning Intercom. It was a clever way to spread the word about ENERGY STAR®-rated lighting and encourage people to distribute rebate coupons to their families, friends, and neighbors. Products were available at local retailers.

“We put lots of time into this,” said teacher Sharon Zika, who spearheaded the program at WEE/FES. “Minnesota Power gave me a huge folder, chock full of science ideas, experiments, comic books, and information to teach students about energy conservation. They also brought in light boards so students could compare different bulbs.”

West End/Falls Elementary“I loved making posters and singing the CFL songs,” said fourth grader Jaci Scholler. “Now I know that using CFL bulbs will save lots of power and are cheaper to use.

” WEE/FES will use money it earned for special programs and equipment. “This program is a good example of Minnesota Power seeing a need and helping schools realize some of their dreams,” Zika said.
