When considering energy efficiency improvements for your home, one of your questions may be “how does my home compare to others?”  The Energy Star® Home Energy Yardstick can help you answer that question by giving you a score ranging from 0 to 10, with 10 as the most efficient.

How do I get my score?
Direct Entry – You can enter basic information about your home and energy usage directly into the Energy Star® Home Energy Yardstick and get your score along with other home energy performance results and other information from Energy Star®.

Modeling – You can model your home, perform scenario analysis, receive your Energy Star® Home Energy Yardstick score, and review recommendations through the Home Energy Calculator.

I have my score, now what?
Based on your score, you can develop an action plan to make your home more efficient.  As you implement improvements, your score should increase.  Suggestions are provided through both the direct entry and modeling methods described above.

It is important to make informed decisions. For more detailed information about technologies, processes, and behaviors identified in the above action plan, visit the Energy Information section of this site. You can find a wealth of information ranging from basic electricity facts to more comprehensive topics such as air sealing and heat pumps.

Don’t forget that Minnesota Power offers a number of rebates and special promotions throughout the year that you can take advantage of when implementing energy efficiency improvements.
