- Amount of brightness you desire (Lumens)
- Quantity of the light—color and temperature (Kelvins)
- Sustainability of colors in a room (CRI)
- Distribution of the light:
omni-directional or non-directional—best for area lighting (CFLs or Halogens)

Living Room
LEDs for reading lamps and CFLs for area lighting or 3-way table lamps.
Kitchen
LEDs for recessed kitchen fixtures to direct light for food preparation and CFLs for area lighting.
Dining Room
Halogens work best on dimmer switches or dimmable CFLs.
(LEDs may not work on standard dimmer controls.)
