Geothermal Heat Pump (GHP) Rebate

on Geothermal Heat Pumps

Incentives:

Rebate:
$200/ton closed loop system 
$100/ton open loop system 
(A typical home requires a heat pump in the 4-5 ton range)

installer/dealer incentive:
$300 per installation closed loop system 
$150 per installation open loop system

Conditions:

  • The heat pump must be installed in homes of Minnesota Power residential customers on or before Dec. 31, 2008.
  • The heat pump must have a minimum Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 3.3 for closed loop and 3.6 for open loop systems. This means that every unit of energy yields more than three units of heat.
  • The heat pump must be installed by a certified GHP contractor.

How to Get Your Rebate:

  • Verify with the installer or dealer the COP rating on the geothermal heat pump.
  • After receiving an estimated cost based on house size and soil conditions, consult your builder and MP representative about meeting Triple E standards.
  • Have your GHP installed by a certified GHP contractor.
  • Once the geothermal heat pump is installed:
    1. Print off the rebate form, fill it out and mail to the address on the form.
    or
    2. Download the rebate form to Microsoft Word, fill it out, save it to your computer and then email the form as an attachment to dtalbott@mnpower.com.
    Note: the form will not submit correctly if you send it directly from Microsoft Word
