Incentives:

Rebate:
$200/ton closed loop system
$100/ton open loop system
(A typical home requires a heat pump in the 4-5 ton range)

installer/dealer incentive:
$300 per installation closed loop system

Conditions:

  • The heat pump must be installed in homes of Minnesota Power residential customers on or before Dec. 31, 2010.
  • The heat pump must have a minimum Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 3.3 for closed loop and 3.6 for open loop systems. This means that every unit of energy yields more than three units of heat.
  • The heat pump must be installed by a certified GSHP contractor.

How to Get Your Rebate:

  • Verify with the installer or dealer the COP rating on the geothermal heat pump.
  • After receiving an estimated cost based on house size and soil conditions, consult your builder and MP representative about meeting Triple E standards.
  • Have your GSHP installed by a certified GSHP contractor.
  • Once the ground source heat pump is installed, print off the rebate form, fill it out and mail to the address on the form.
  • If you have any questions about the program or need assistance with the rebate form, contact Andrea Prunuske at 608-249-9322, ext. 303, or 1-800-677-8423 (option 2).
  • You may also request a video and informational literature on the installation and operation of geothermal heat pumps.

* MP and participating utilities, by providing the rebate, do not warrant the equipment or the work of the contractor and are not responsible for any personal injury or damage caused by the equipment.
