Minnesota Power is pleased to announce the 2008 School-based Fundraiser and Energy Education Event for schools located within the Minnesota Power service area. We invite interested schools to submit proposals to participate in these fundraiser and educational events scheduled for:
1. October (proposals must be submitted by May 1 to be considered)
2. November (proposal must be submitted by June 1 to be considered)
At least one school will be selected for each time period up to a maximum of five for the year.
The primary goals of these events are as follows:
1. Raise awareness among students and community members of the economic and environmental benefits of using ENERGY STAR qualified lighting products (e.g., bulbs, lamps, and fixtures).
2. Educate students and the community on the value of conserving energy.
3. Raise up to $5,000 for your school activities and generate corresponding levels of energy savings in the community. Note: Minnesota Power will donate from $1 to $5 per product sold at a participating retailer, based on the type of energy efficient lighting product.
The event will include the following:
1. An instant (in-store) rebate on ENERGY STAR qualified lighting products.
2. Instant rebate coupons for students to distribute within the community.
3. A local retailer(s) to sell the products at a significant discount.
4. Promotional posters and display materials for the school to publicize the event.
5. A press release for schools to share with local media.
6. Energy education materials to augment school curriculums.
7. A school identified event manager will coordinate the event. Minnesota Power will pay the manager $500.00
Funding for these events is limited. Minnesota Power will evaluate each proposal and choose up to five schools to participate in 2008. Proposals will be evaluated based on the school’s plan to get the community involved in the event; its plan for educating students on the value of energy conservation; the school’s marketing/promotional plan for the lighting sale; participation of a local retailer; and school administration support. Proposal forms may be filled in on-line, printed and mailed to the address below:
