Our Environmental Initiatives
Here's why, and here's what you can expect.
We want to continue to provide you with clean, reliable power. And we want to do it the right way. Here are a few of the environmental initiatives underway that will impact rates:
• New emission reduction technology at our coal-fired plants—Boswell, Laskin and Taconite Harbor. This will reduce nitrogen, sulfur and mercury emissions by up to 90 percent, at a cost of $260 million.
• Wind energy development and expansion. We’re building the Taconite Ridge Wind Center on the Iron Range with a capital investment of $50 million and have expanded the Oliver Wind Project in North Dakota. Altogether, we’ll soon be able to power some 50,000 homes with pure, renewable wind. (end box)
