An excellent but little known small tree
with upright spreading to rounded crown. The medium green trifoliate
leaves remain in very good condition throughout the season and turn
a vivid orange-red in the fall. The attractive exfoliating, buff
colored bark on the trunk of young trees adds to the winter interest.
This Asiatic tree has a wide native range, growing up to the equivalent
of USDA zone 3 in northern China.
Requirements and Culture:
Requires a well drained soil. Full sun or
partial shade. Avoid alkaline soil. Keep well watered during establishment.
Limitations:
Not tolerant of poorly drained soils. Not readily available.
