Ash has an upright oval crown. Leaves are
pinnately compound with 7-11 leaflets, dark green with a lighter
green underside. Black Ash is native to boggy sites in the Great
Lakes region. It is a good tree for sites with poor drainage.
Requirements and Culture:
Requires full sun and ample moisture. Quite
tolerant of poorly drained soils. Very hardy.
Limitations:
Not tolerant of severe drought. No serious insect problems. Susceptibility
to ash yellows not well known.
Selected Cultivars:
`Fallgold' has attractive dark green
foliage with a bright yellow fall color. Tree form is upright oval.
Holds foliage later in autumn than typical for the species.
