Red Barron Crabapple has a narrow columnar plant
form which becomes vase-shaped with age. New foliage is purple but
changes to a deep green color with maturity. Flowers are dark rosy
red and fruit is a deep red. The 1/2" fruit have good persistence.
Develops a reddish fall foliage color.
Requirements and Culture:
Information provided for the species applies. Requires full sun, tolerant to a fairly wide range of soil conditions. Prune to remove suckers and watersprouts. Prune as young trees to develop good branch structure.
Limitations:
Has very good resistance to cedar-apple rust, fireblight, mildew and fair resistance to scab.
